NW60: Unlocking the Power of the Vaginal Microbiome: Modern Solutions for Recurrent Infections and Fertility

Microbiome-forward assessments and therapies have had a place in naturopathic medicine’s unique armamentarium for over a hundred years. The vagina is home to the human body’s second largest reservoir of microbes, and it’s unique in many ways. This presentation will elucidate historical and current techniques for assessing and addressing the vaginal microbiome for many aspects of genitourinary health and fertility medicine. Assessments include microscopy, culture, 16SrRNA, and whole-genome sequencing. Treatments include lifestyle, diet, pharmaceuticals, botanicals, supplements, probiotics, and vaginal microbiota transplantation (VMT).
